How to raise a child actor so that he doesn't become a star

Родителям на заметку | 13.03.2025
When a child begins to make progress in the acting profession, it is certainly a reason for pride. Filming, the stage, the applause, the media attention — all this can turn an adult's head, not to mention a child. Parents often face a difficult task.: how to maintain the desire for success, but at the same time maintain simplicity and sincerity? Balancing recognition and modesty is a real art that requires wisdom and patience.

Family as a support

The main protection against "stardust" is a strong family, where a child's success is perceived not as an excuse for praise, but as part of his path, requiring work and responsibility. When there is an atmosphere of support in the house, where not only the result is appreciated, but also the process, the child learns to understand that fame is not an end in itself, but a side effect of hard work. It is very important that conversations at a family dinner are not limited to discussing roles and filming. Be interested not only in his career, but also in his hobbies outside of acting, relationships with friends, dreams and experiences.

Instilling in a child the understanding that he is no better than others just because he starred in an advertisement or a movie is one of the key tasks of parents. If the attention from others becomes excessive, create situations in which he will feel like an ordinary child. For example, send him to camps where no one knows about his successes, encourage communication with peers outside the film industry. Such an experience helps to keep in touch with reality.

Learning to accept more than just applause

One of the main reasons why young actors start to star is an overabundance of praise without constructive criticism. Yes, it is important to praise a child for his success, but it is equally important to teach him to take comments calmly. Explain that any work on a role is a process in which mistakes are inevitable, and that criticism is not a cause for resentment, but an opportunity to become better.

If a child gets used to constant applause, it is important to teach him to cope with moments when attention becomes less. After the end of filming or the theater season, there comes a period of silence, which can be a challenge for young stars. Parents should explain that an actor's career is a series of ups and downs, and his professional growth depends on how a person behaves during periods of calm.

Development beyond the stage

To protect a child from "star disease", it is important to develop his personality in a diverse way. Acting is only one facet of life, and a child should understand that there is a world outside the spotlight. Encourage sports, reading, creativity, and participation in volunteer projects. The more diverse a child's interests are, the less likely it is that they will evaluate their importance solely through success on the screen.

Do not forget about the need to take responsibility for your actions. Give your child small household chores, teach him to take care of loved ones, help around the house, and be part of the team not only on the set, but also in the family. Such habits help to maintain a sense of reality and will not allow success to overshadow basic human values.

Raising a child actor is a difficult but rewarding task. The main thing is to remember that love, support and honesty are more important than any fame. Parents who teach children to stay true to themselves help them not only build a career, but also become happy, whole individuals. And it's much more valuable than any role.
